Buchan Group Riding for the Disabled

Scottish Registered Charity SC028631

How YOU Can Make a Difference

No RDA Group can function without helpers. A particularly disabled rider may require up to three helpers: one to take control of the horse, and two walkers who have a supportive role, and walk on either side of the rider and horse.

It is not necessary to have a "horsey" background (although it is useful), but a sense of humour is absolutely essential!!! The instructor is generally available to give advice to new helpers, and volunteers are encouraged to attend specially arranged training days. Apart from the satisfaction of seeing the riders` progress, volunteers enjoy fresh air and exercise. A regular commitment of 2 hours a week during school term time is all that is asked. If you are interested, just write, ring or e-mail us. Telephone number and address etc are on the Contact page.

Fundraising

Help is always needed financially. Unfortunately, riders are required to contribute a small amount towards the cost of riding, and the Branch fundraises to subsidise the full cost of the activity. In an ideal world, the Buchan Branch would wish to provide riding free of charge. All donations are greatly and gratefully received. Major events in the fundraising year are the Beach Ride (a sponsored 12 mile round trip from Balmedie to Newburgh and back); this usually takes place on a date in September/October. And packing bags at one of the local supermarkets just before Christmas has also proved to be a valuable fundraiser.
